What is an ORN ?
Only available in the Gauteng Province, an Ordinary Registration Number (ORN) is a unique combination of 3 alpha and 3 numeric characters followed by the Provincial Coat of Arms and the suffix GP.

The following combinations were blocked at the initial introduction of GP numbers on 1 January 1997 :
  • triple letters (e.g. BBB, CCC, DDD................ZZZ) excluding AAA, GGG, ZZZ
  • BMW, DKW, FRD, HND, KDT, LND, MBZ, MRC, MZD, NSN, PCS, SZK AND ZCC
  • triple figures (e.g. 000,111, 222, 333, ..............999)
  • 090, 110, 130, 140, 150, 160, 180, 200, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260, 280, 300, 302, 306, 316, 318, 320, 323, 325, 335, 340, 341, 380, 405, 400, 420, 500, 525, 530, 540, 600, 601, 602, 605, 606, 626, 740, 750, 786, 850, 900, 911, 928, 944 and 960
